NEW! Staring in September 2026, ACAF will offer three different kinds of programs to better respond to your personal learning goals.
ACAF offers affordable, effective conversation-based French courses for learners at all levels.
Our instructors are obsessed with one goal: bringing you to speak French naturally and with confidence.
We believe that all other activities (reading, writing, listening, grammar) serve to support the development of speaking skills.
What do we mean by affordable?
Hiring a private instructor is an expensive way to learn a language. ACAF group courses allow you to maximize your exposure to the language on a more reasonable budget. Our course fees are a fraction of the cost of French classes offered by universities, school boards, private institutes or Alliance Française. We don’t have to pay for a physical location or the salary of administrators.
What do we mean effective?
The best way is to be part of a group of motivated learners at your level, guided by a qualified, experienced French teacher who understands and uses communicative language teaching methods. The focus is on speaking practice — grammar is presented when necessary, and then immediately applied in a communicative context. Classes are organized with learners at approximately the same level, creating a supporting and cooperative learning environment.
Program 1: Online classes
This is the traditional model of courses ACAF has offered for the past three terms. The fall 2026 session will run for 13-weeks from September 14 to December 19, 2026. Classes will be capped at 16 learners.
Class schedule:
• 2 sessions/week (Monday & Wednesday or Tuesday & Thursday) 7-9:00 pm (new times)
• 1 session/week (Saturday) 9-11:30 am or 12 – 2:30 pm
Fees for the 13-week fall term:
• $285 for 2 sessions/week
• $190 for 1 session/week
Program 2: Small group intensive learning cells (NEW!)
Learning to speak accurately in French takes considerable practice combined with regular corrective feedback by a trained instructor. ACAF is aware that there many learners who plan to take the TEF or TCF for immigration purposes, who may be soon evaluated by the federal government, or who may be seeking employment in a bilingual setting in the near future. In response to this growing need, ACAF is pleased to launch a new program for highly motivated learners who will meet online daily (Monday – Friday) for 1 hour per day in the evening. This program will be organized in 4-week sessions (5 hours per week, total of 20 hours). Our first session will run from September 14 to October 9, 2026.
Class schedule:
• 1 hour per day, 5 days a week in the evening (from 6-9 pm – the exact time will be determined based on participants’ availability)
Fees (per 4-week session, 1 lesson/day, total 20 hours)
• $195
Program 3: In-person Saturday classes (NEW!)
ACAF is excited to launch an in-person option for learners who prefer a more traditional form of learning. Courses will be held at the Université de l’Ontario français located at 9 Lower Jarvis Street on Saturdays from September 26 to December 19 (no class will be held on Thanksgiving weekend). Classes will be 3 hours in length with an additional 1-hour online check-in during the week at a time that is convenient for all participants. Classes of a maximum of 14 learners will be formed based on the levels of participants.
Class schedule:
• 3 hours per Saturday from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (precise time TBD based on participant availability)
• 1 hour online “check-in” organized each week, based on participant availability
Fees for the 12-week session:
• $360
